List everything that a family or others on vacation would like to know about. If you have a dock, are on the waterfront, or have great fishing there, list it.

In an area where there are many rentals for visitors and a reduced number of renters due to the tight economy, you’ll have to compete to draw attention to your place over others.

First, see what others in the area are renting their places for and find some that are comparable to your. Make sure your price is about the same. In a competitive time, you might want to be a bit cheaper. See what conditions are typical for rentals in your area. For example, do they all require 2 night minimums on weekends, or only on the busier premium or holiday weekends?

If your home is in a ski resort area, they will be interested in how far the house is from the resorts, if there are places convenient to renta ski equipment, and what kind of deals they can get on lift tickets.

Rental homes often have just a few bedrooms, but many extra beds, cots, and pullout hide-a-beds for them to sleep on. Your two bedroom cabin may actually sleep 8.

Finally, give an accounting of the local restaurants, grocery markets, pizza places, bars, movie theatres, and shopping for their convenience. List the attractions and points of interest in the area, too, so there is something there for most everyone in their party. The more attractive and detailed you can make your description of the rental house you have for vacation fun, the more likely you are to get someone interested in renting your house.
